Travelling safely in Peru requires preparation, awareness, and proactive measures. Here are essential tips: use authorised transportation from Lima airport, visit Cuzco during the shoulder months, book Machu Picchu and Inca Trail permits in advance, stay vigilant against pickpocketing, and ensure you have comprehensive travel insurance. Do not leave you hotel at night, especially if you solo female traveller. Also be aware of the altitude. It is very important that you do a proper research on altitude sickness.

To maintain warmth in your tent during high-altitude hikes, consider using a smaller three or four-season tent, a mummy-style sleeping bag on an insulating pad, and dressing in moisture-wicking, warm clothing with a beanie for sleeping. Choose a tent location that is sheltered from the wind, avoid valleys where cold air settles, and opt for south-facing slopes to benefit from sunlight. Additionally, insulate your tent with a ground tarp and an emergency blanket to reflect heat.

This is a million-dollar question. Many of us used to pack too many items, but over the years, we have learned that this is not the best approach. Carrying a huge, heavy backpack can be quite cumbersome. It's also important to consider our impact on nature. Personally, I prefer to pack thoughtfully. I make sure to bring warm clothes, dry food, a water filter, a lighter, a first aid kit, some spare clothes, a torch, a power bank, and a compass. Did I forget anything?
